How to Make a Call

Five steps to make an Internet relay call

  1. Go to the Home Page "Make a Call" button
  2. Type the area code and telephone number and then click the “Connect” button.
  3. You will connect to a Communications Assistant who will place your call and inform you of the call     status: “ringing” or “busy.“
  4. When the person you are calling answers, the Communications Assistant will type their greeting, then     “ga” for “go ahead.” This means it is your turn to respond. When you are done typing your message,     type “ga.“
  5. Continue this process throughout the duration of your call. When you are ready to end your call, type     “sk” for “stop keying” then click the “Hang Up” button.

IP Relay is Not for e911 Calls

IP Relay does not currently recognize your physical location, and thus, AT&T cannot forward your location to an emergency center on emergency calls made through this service. Please use your telephone or TTY to call you local emergency 911 service number directly or if you are an IM user, you may register your physical location with AT&T and obtain a ten digit number which could then be used to complete your call to emergency 911 services. AT&T is not liable for any damages for emergency calls place through this service.
