at&t Relay Services
Computer TTY
Make Your Computer Work Like a TTY!
With the appropriate software, you can interact with the relay service without any additional equipment.
Make sure you’re using these settings:
- Communications Mode: Asynchronous
- Baud Rate: 300, 1200, 2400
- Number of Data Bits: 8
- Parity: No
- Number of Stop Bits: 1
- X-On/X-Off: Not Required
Your computer needs to be in half-duplex for 300 Baud, and full-Duplex for 1200 and 2400 baud. For smart-type modems with an “AT” command set, the command is ATS10+255. (Sometimes the relay service will place your call on hold, so your modem must be set so it won’t hang up.)
With a lot of software programs, you can save these settings for whenever you dial the relay service. Check your communications software manual for compatibilities.
Tip: A combination PC and telephone setup is excellent for Two-Line Voice Carry Over (VCO).
