Step-By-Step Instructions for Basic HCO Relay Calls
- Dial 711 or 1-800-855-2880 to reach a relay Communication Assistant directly.
- When you see the message "RC NBR CALLING PLS GA" on your TTY display screen, type the area code and telephone number you are calling followed by "HCO GA."
Note: If you have created a Relay Choice Profile, all of your HCO calls will be automatically set up. You can save time on every call you make or receive after you create your profile, since you will be connected with HCO already activated. - You will connect to a Communication Assistant who will type the message "HCO ON GA" to signal for you to go ahead.
- Pick up the handset of your phone. The Communication Assistant will tell you that your call is being placed. If a person answers, the Communication Assistant will announce the call as a "Hearing Carry Over" call then verbally ask you to begin typing your message. HCO can be automatically setup by creating a relay choice profile. This will ensure that all relay calls you make and any relay calls you receive will be connected with HCO already activated.
- Replace the handset and type your message. Please type "GA" when you are finished typing and ready for a response. The Communication Assistant will read your message aloud to the person you have called.
- Pick up the handset again to listen to the person you have called speak directly to you, then replace it when you are ready to type your reply.
- Continue this process throughout the duration of your call. When you are ready to hang up, type “SK” then pick up your handset to hear the Communication Assistant say "Goodbye."
