TTY Tips
Here are some ideas for getting the most out of TTY Relay. One of the best ways to make your relay experience the best it can be is to set up a Relay Choice Profile. Your profile informs the Communication Assistant of your relay calling preferences. It’s easy to set up you profile and only takes a few minutes, but saves time on every call.
If you are a voice caller placing or receiving a relay call from a TTY user, speak directly to the caller and not to the Communication Assistant. Everything you say and anything that is heard will be communicated to the TTY user.
Tips for TTY VCO Calls
- Set up a Relay Choice Profile to inform the Communication Assistant of your relay calling preferences.
- You can request a male or female to relay your call as long as one is available.
- Start speaking to the Communication Assistant only after you see "VCO ON GA."
- VCO is turned off while the other party is speaking, so the Communication Assistant will not hear the VCO user before receiving a "GA."
- Do not press any keys while the Communication Assistant is connecting the call, because the Communication Assistant will not know whether you want to use TTY or VCO.
- Provide the Communication Assistant the details of your call before the call is connected.
- If you expect to reach an answering machine, dictate an entire message to the Communication Assistant before the call is connected.
- Be aware that everyone on the call can hear each other.
- Type "GA" after finishing each thought to indicate you are ready for a response.
- You can request a male or female to relay your call as long as one is available.
- Save time by providing the Communication Assistant an initial message before the call is connected. The Communication Assistant will connect the call and convey the message immediately.
- Ask the Communication Assistant to record important information mentioned throughout your conversation, so you can refer to it later in your call.
- If you expect to reach an answering machine, dictate an entire message to the Communication Assistant before the call is connected.
- Set up a Speed Dial Profile to store the numbers of up to 20 people you frequently call.
- Ask the Communication Assistant to stay in the background, and you can decide when the Communication Assistant will re-voice what the other party did not understand.
